(The American Museum of Natural History, AMNH)の写真集。
The collections contain over 32 million specimens, of which only a small fraction can be displayed at any given time. The Museum has a scientific staff of more than 200, sponsors over 100 special field expeditions each year, and averages about five million visits annually. Located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in New York City.

One of the premier attractions in New York City is the Museum's series of fossil halls, including its two famed dinosaur halls in the David H. Koch Dinosaur Wing, as well as the Lila Acheson Wallace Wing of Mammals and Their Extinct Relatives.

■ Coelacanths (シーラカンス) were thought to have disappeared from the fossil
record about 70 million years ago, but in 1938 a fisherman caught a living
coelacanth off the coast of South Africa. About 200 more specimens have
been found in the western Indian Ocean since then. |

Deinonychus |
|
■ Deinonychus (デイノニクス) : At 7 feet long, Deinonychus belonged to a group
of dinosaurs called maniraptors, or "hand-robbers." Its hands
and feet were equipped with sharp claws for catching and grasping prey.
The dinosaur's hollow bones and long legs indicate swift and agile movement. |
||
Stegosaurus |
■Stegosaurus (ステゴサウルス) : At one time, some scientists thought Stegosaurus
had a second brain since the one in its head seemed so small. Stegosaurus
did, however, manage with one small brain. |

Duck-Billed Dinosaur |
■ Duck-Billed Dinosaur (アヒルの口をした恐竜) : Anatotitan was a duck-billed dinosaur,
one of the most widespread dinosaur groups. About 70 million years ago,
duck-billed dinosaurs lived in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. Their habitats
varied from forests in river valleys to swamps in coastal floodplains.

|
■Coelophysis (コエロフィシス) : Museum explorers uncovered these Coelophysis specimens
in a "death assemblage," in which a group of the same animal
is found preserved. It is thought that these sites are the results of flooding,
when carcasses were washed into a muddy pond and covered with silt. (Coelophysis
(Ghost
Ranch)
